Addiction to Coffee

We all have something that we must have in a certain way.

My addiction is my morning coffee.  Steve doesn't really care, one way or the other.

But at slightly less than 3 years of age, Dylan told his less than 2 year old brother Aidan:  Don't talk to Grandma yet, she's still drinking her coffee.

This week I decided to do the long process of cleaning our brewer, once breakfast was over.

It was working just fine until the fateful moment when I pressed start.

It made a strange sound and sputtered.  Steve said I put the water in wrong. So he took it out and put it back in.

Didn't help, at all.

Then we did what all our generation does:  pulled out the manual and trouble shooted.  Nope.

Then we googled it.  Nope.

Followed by going on YouTube.  Nope.

Steve then did what a great husband should do (with a wife who was panicking about her coffee needs)!  He went into our Amazon prime account and ordered a new unit.

We just had to wait 3 days!

I had a doctor's appointment the next morning.  I took myself to Starbucks and got a venti.  Steve figured I wouldn't be able to manage my purse, canes and 2 hot cups of coffee so he went coffee free

The man is a saint!

Next morning we met friends for breakfast. The restaurant had decent coffee in very large mugs.  Bless them

Our new coffee maker came that afternoon.  Steve set it up immediately.  We tried it after dinner.

Turns out the new model has two things I always wanted in the old one:  The ability to both make it hotter and stronger!

We'll be trying out the carafe tomorrow morning.  Steve said I shouldn't make 12 cups when 8 should suffice.

Seriously?  He knew enough to order a new machine but then thinks 8 cups is good?

Basically, thanks to Steve's quick thinking and our Amazon account,  my impending withdrawal effects were avoided.

Other news,  I really liked our new dentist.  She took the impressions for my crown.  This means that in 3 weeks, I will have an end to this year long dental adventure!

I Love Britbox!

Britbox has come into our home.  It's an entertainment venue that even Steve is enjoying!

Yes, we've binged on Sherlock, Shakespeare and Hathaway, 2 versions of Agatha Christie 's Miss Marple and so many other well written and acted programming.

We had a free 2 week trial.  We now have a paid subscription for a year.

Our main question is:  Why can't American TV be half as well put together?

As I'm writing this entry I am watching (okay, binging) Sister Boniface.  A smart, funny nun who helps the police solve murders in the 1960's England.

We used our Amazon prime membership to start.  Check it out if you want to get thoroughly involved in some interesting shows.

And now, you'll have to excuse me, I need to see how the good sister figures out who killed the chess master and why!

My Head Hurt

My head hurt, a lot.  Truth be told, this was worse than a migraine.

What Was the cause of this blinding pain in the back of my head?  Take your pick:

Degenerative disc disease
Rheumatoid arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Bulging/herniated neck discs
Valley fever
Jaw surgeries
Last, all of them together

Okay, it had been going on for months.  But now it was making focusing a challenge.  I googled it.

Occipital neuralgia.  Messaged my physical medicine doctor. He had me make the 45 mile trip to not just confirm, but to give me a "nice" big syringe full of lidocaine to the offended point of beginning.

It was not a pleasant experience, but less painful than when he injects my knees.

Within a few minutes I could open my eyes!  By the time I was allowed to leave,  the pain level was about 90% better!

Whoever made the statement about getting old is not for sissies, knew what they were talking about.

Retirement Isn't Easy

A month ago Steve retired.  It's been an adjustment.

I think he's trying to catch up on his sleep, more than anything else.  That and taking out his new found freedom on my honeysuckle.  The 3 dead desert rose plants that actually need removal are still in their spots resembling a mesh of twigs.

Yes, I have mentioned that I would prefer he hack at them but there they are-right next to the sad looking bushes he's so proud of trimming.

Sigh.

Then there's the fact that while he snores until 9 a.m.-Lucky still feels that 5 a.m. is the best time for me to get up.

This is her job.  She's awesome at it.

One of Bryce's friends lives across the street from us.  The kids were with us for a week while Adam and Sam were celebrating their 15th anniversary.  There was a sleepover party and I had to pick her up at 10.

First time I actually did more than a friendly wave with them.  They noticed Steve being home a lot and asked Bryce what grandpa did for work.

Bryce, with her grandma's directness, said "since he retired, he just sleeps and eats junk food that his doctors told him weren't good for him"!

When I told Steve, he was very offended.  " I trimmed the yard, didn't I?"

Probably going to have to have a serious discussion about what life is going to be like-I think he really needs to find a hobby.

Might I suggest letting out the dog half the week?

Retirement

Big news around here!

After over 45 years, Steve has retired from La-Z-Boy, Inc.!  Right now, he's in the process of transitioning from work life to "oh yeah, no where to go" life.

We were able to go watch both Jackson's basketball practice and game.  We had both kids and grandkids over for dinner-midweek!

What was really lovely was that, with the help of Adam and Sam, his colleagues threw him a surprise retirement party.  It was won, unexpected and so very much appreciated.

He'll now be here to help babysit some of our grand fur babies on and off for the next month.

In other news:

Lucky finally has normal blood pressure!  Cannot possibly relate how happy we are to have finally accomplished this without the need of the$800 "bundle" medication.

Also, I no longer look like a freak of nature.  The swelling is down to the point where I am able to easily go out in public.  Plus, the stitches came out.  Still, I have to take another round of antibiotics and wait at least 3 months before I can think about part 3 of this restoration.

It's been almost 6 weeks since Sunshine passed.  We're very much feeling her absence.  We get weepy.  Feel the worst for Lucky.  Since losing her sister her eyesight has diminished even more and she rivals her father in the hearing loss competition.  She's constantly smelling the floors and Sunshine's favorite "go to" spots outside.  All the while bumping into doors, walls, etc...

That's our news since last I wrote.
