39 Years and Counting
It's our 39th anniversary!
This had to be one of the oddest "celebrations" yet.
With the help of our daughters, we had a family dinner mid-week. We just squeaked in under the "legal gathering" amount. But we're risk-takers. Insert eye-roll.
Since we never did celebrate Steve's birthday with that 12 pound ribeye roast in January, I figured this was a good time to use it. Especially since our lovely Samsung refrigerator is still not really working. Made easy work of defrosting that big chunk of deliciousness.
I also made Steve's favorite (and the rest of the family as well) Yorkshire puddings. The girls added their specialties as well. Sarah brought her green bean, beet and feta dish and Sam created a delicious and beautiful chocolate torte with fresh strawberries.
This is actually our first anniversary in quite a number of years where we're not only at home but not on board a Celebrity cruise ship and enjoying being pampered and honored by a bevy of fantastic crew members.
Sigh.
And if that wasn't odd enough-I decided that I wasn't going to actually cook another meal on our "real" day. Nope. We don't eat out often as it is and when we do, it's usually breakfast. By yesterday I had begun feeling pretty isolated. Thanks to my doing surveys I had gift cards to Denny's. Yep, you've guessed-Anniversary dinner courtesy America's Favorite Diner.
We also got 20% off and I got to ride in the car for the entire 1-1/4 miles to pick it up and bring it home.
This is how far down we've come. Instead of dinner for two in the Lawn Club over-looking the Atlantic Ocean outside on top of a ship, we ate dinner at the kitchen table from Denny's.
At least we were together. At least one of us is relatively healthy and we just laughed, enjoyed our little girls and reminded each other that we should hopefully be able to enjoy our 40th!
Our 40th, with any luck at all, will be on board a cruise ship, this time with all our kids and grandkids! Plus, if all goes as we can only at this point dream of, we'll ask the captain to re-new our vows.
Crossing fingers and toes!
