Happy Adoption Day, Sunshine!!

Yep, seven years ago we saw our girl shaking in a cage at the Halo rescue in Petsmart.  We spent an hour with her and decided to bring both Lucky and the older grandsons back the next day.  We did have a "cat friendly" check made.

We were told she was skittish.  I said, "From what you told us, in the last 10 days she was found roaming the streets in 115 degrees, picked up by strangers, spayed, given shots, poked at and then brought here, stuck in a small cage with another dog and God only knows what else!  Let's give her a break and not label her!"

Next day, after the last round of shots to my knees, we picked up the kids from school, hitched up Lucky and went to make Sunshine a legal family member.

We knew this adoption would work!  First thing she did was recognize us and try to get to us. Then she and Lucky met.  Strangely, only smelling and kisses happen!  I mention this because Lucky barks at everything and everyone.  Kisses for the boys.  While we finished paperwork, Sunshine got a bath, new collar and leash and lots of happy tears!

By that night both dogs cuddled up in a blanket together.  Sunshine and Pepper became fast friends as well.

Since then we've all surmised on the abuse she survived, taken care of bad teet, found she was older than we thought (we don't care!) and discovered she has kidney disease.I

Honestly, Sunshine is a blessing and a love.  Making her homemade food is my pleasure, keeping her with us as long as we can is our goal.

Happy Adoption Day our precious girl!  Here's to many, many more!
