Hurricane in the Desert

We've had quite the monsoon season this year.  Lots of rain. Thankfully most of it was happening at night.

However, we had quite the experience on Monday!

I picked up the kids from school.  While waiting it turned very gray out.  We got to the car.  We were grateful that the rain hadn't started.  Parked and got inside. Adam's still home, so I stayed a few minutes to do my "mom" thing.

Suddenly, a thunder storm hit! The lightning followed quickly.

But wait! There is more! I decided to leave because my girls hate being alone with that noise. As Adam opened the door the strongest winds we had ever seen began.

I'm talking winds that wouldn't let me open my car door!  Sent heavy trash cans blowing down the street! I had to hold my door handle to stop being toppled over!    Finally managed to somehow get in and down the street to our house. Girls were shaking. Thunder jackets on and mom's lap to the rescue!

A few minutes later we had the heaviest rainfall in the last three years!  Our backyard "lake" returned.

Adam's BBQ blew over!  Several neighbors lost mature Palo Verde trees. Adam's next door neighbor 's snapped and fell into their yard!  Steve had to wait until the 45MPH winds died down and the rain lessened before he could go down and pick up the grill.

We had quite a few rescue teams out here to clean up.  Thankfully, only two people lost their cars.

Mother Nature is amazing.
