Really Strong Stout
It all started when my dear friend Arricca told me she had made a chocolate Stout cake for her husband's birthday. I love recipes that include something out of the ordinary. So I asked if I could have the recipe. Within a few days I received the treasured ingredients and how to make this dessert in the mail.
I had no idea what was going to ensue. I had all of the ingredients except for the needed bottle of stout. Since I had to pick up something at Walmart I toodled on over to the alcohol and spirit section to pick up what I thought was going to be an easy purchase.
Guess what? They did not sell single cans of stout! They had a box with eight cans. The manager of the section suggested I go down to either the local circle k or the chevron station. Supposedly they would have one for me there. They did not.
The managers said for me to try either our local Safeway or our local Fry's grocery stores.
Guess what? they also did not have single cans of stacked but had cases just like Walmart for the same price. How could this be?
Steve just went ahead and bought the case of stout. Later that afternoon I went about with the task of baking the cake. I had decided since we were having a family dinner Monday that it would be a delicious end to a delicious meal. Sam had purchased a brisket on sale and Steve was smoking it. That is a different story for a different day.
The cake is cool it looked beautiful and smelled wonderful!
Steve brought down are nearly 40 year old glass domed cake holder and spruced it up since it hadn't been used in many a year. I picked up the first layer from my cooling rack and placed it onto the platter. I took my frosting and put on a layer so it would be ready for the next cake.
That's when the problem began. I picked up the layer and as I was about to put it onto the first layer it broken half!
In all my 60 odd years of baking I had never had such a thing happen to me before! I figured the frosting would certainly hold it together. It did not. One side was doing okay but the other one no matter what I was doing was trying to slide!
Let's just say dinner was delicious and not a drop was left with the exception of the part of the original 16 lb brisket that we of course sent home with Sam and Adam. The cake looked awful! But everyone agreed it was quite delicious. Even the kids!
At least I had this story to tell. Now you all know that Stout is more than just a fancy beer. It's a story of perseverance and overlooking bad looks.

Awwww, I was hoping for a picture. My 91-year-old dad is one to take pictures of his culinary creations then posting them on Facebook. He is a far better cook than I. I wouldn't even know where you could buy a single can of stout. I would have trouble drinking just one. Put it in a chocolate cake and I'd have no problem with it.
More medical procedures is something I definitely wouldn't look forward to. My brother told me that Starbucks Golden Turmeric coffee is supposed to be good for joint health. Have you ever heard that? I've tried a few cups and it seems to have some effect but it might make me ill in other ways. So I'm on the fence with it.

I have heard about it Dave but haven't tried it. However I have been taking turmeric for well over 2 years. You can get a big container of it at Costco and I put it in to my bait, over night, and cooked oat meals or I mix it in with my daily fiber powder in the mornings. I was also told it was a good suggestion to add Ginger and fish oil to my already long list of morning and evening supplements. As I stand here right now just having taken off a pain patch and putting on some pen said gel I am telling you the amount of relief is minimal. I am now considering depending upon I knew MRI some nerve oblatione. I've had some friends who said it worked for about 6 months and others who said it was painful and didn't help at all. Getting old is truly not for sissies
